A week ago Andy Mineo asked for lyrics from his songs that have touch or encouraged his fans. For this week's BARZ OUT we are giving Andy what he asked for. Here are some "BARZ" from each project that Andy has released.
I recieved a 2 song playlist from my man Idiomz. I had never heard of
him, but with the world connected through twitter and facebook, reaching out to
each other and connecting is easier than ever.
I grabbed my head-phones and threw on the mini-mixtape.
I Reminisce: This song is rather dope. Idiomz takes us through a
story of his life as he reminisces about the past. The story takes us through his
childhood temptations that led him to military service, where he was met the same
temptations. He ended this part of his life this line "careless with my
whispers, result in the creation of a son". At this point he begins to turn his
life around and ends the story as a man giving his life to serve God.
Great testimony with a few memorable moments. The beat is alright,
but I was really impressed with his flow. He has an old school feel that I
really liked. And his story telling on this song was great.
Overall: REALLY LIKE
The Shining: Idiomz takes a different approach, He takes on the teachers role with "The Shining". This song is a theological discourse and a christian living anthem.
"Walk by faith and not by sight
Cause what we do in the dark will soon come to the light"
The song's focus is on God and debunking the idea that other things will satisfy us. Calling us to grow in our knowledge of God and live holy.
This song's beat is decent, the bass thrums hard and makes your chest shake. The Piano in the background is melodic, but it needed a little more. Idiomz theology was right on and his call to live for God was good.
My favorite line was;
"Ignorance isn't bliss,
Its and excuse for us to act like Jesus don't exist
We walk around in our Bubbles
Thinking works is going to double
As the thing that's going to grant us grace
But it's by faith alone"
This song has been one of the most talked about songs in all of CHH. Lecrae released this song as a way to help us all understand who Lecrae is now.
What do you think about?
I stumbled upon this bit of video genius today.
The Back to Church Sunday movement was an interesting idea, and I hope it got many old faces back in the pews. None the less, I think the advertising campaign was great. Get one solid rapper and put him on a song with several "Pastor types".
The video is meant to be funny, but it adds a little legit rap to the funny stuff and I think hits a Home Run. Dre Murray, who coming in at #1b for our #CHHRank, brings the legit-ness the ad with his lyrics and presence. He makes the ad for me.
Check it out!
Oh...Now, I hope that you're ready
Everybody in the Nation, find a location.
Also check out "Ya'll come back now"
Man, what can I say about Andy. Unknown to many CHH listeners until he sang for Lecrae on his hit song “Background” in 2010. Since that release, this dude has taken CHH by storm. He is immensely talented Emcee!
He signed with Reach Records, and then released his free mixtape called “Formerly Known”. This mixtape has the most downloads of any free CHH album not called “Church Clothes”
Then Andy, bend on connecting with fans, has released none-stop videos, and music leading up to his first commercial Album with Reach. “Heroes for Sale” was a huge hit and has already reached Classice CHH Album status.
Everything this man touches turns to gold.
Some of my favorite from Andy is his collaborations. Are you noticing a pattern yet. All of our top five are great colab artist. This is because collaborations keep you voice in the ear of all the fans. One of the ways that Andy stays relevant is by selecting his collaborations well.
Keep your eyes on Andy. He is a monster on the mic and way he puts a song together is second to none. He is a joy to listen to!
The new Collision Records member is one of the best lyricist in CHH. His critically acclaimed album “Wake Up” is awesome display of deep thoughts, challenging critique and amazing word play. You could listen to that album everyday and catch something new each time you spin it. It is a great album and Swoope kills it.
Swoope is also one of the best collaborations out there. But callers beware, because he kills every colab he is a part of. People will probably forget you are even on the track. Lecrae had his work cut out for him when he landed on the same charity track with Swoope called “Actions Speak Louder”. Swoope opens that mug with a metaphor laced verse that set a great tone for the track.
“Im Drowning fast in my sorrow, all of me is flood
I’ve seen hurt, seen death, seen slaughter. Now I need some clean water, all I see is mud”
All this to say that Swoope is one of the brights young artist in CHH. I think that anything he puts out is worthy to be listened to. Check him out!
The name Viktory should be synonymous with passion, or maybe intensity; or as he would have you say it, he is relentless! There are not many who can match the fervor that Viktory behind the Mic. His fourth studio Album, "R4", is an instant CHH classic and has put him on the map for many who had never heard him of him before.
But Viktory has been making great music for a long time now.
His first studio album, Believe it Now, was released in 2006. His second studio album, "Son of the King", was released in 2009. His third studio album, "Birth of a Legacy Vol 1", was released in 2011.
Each of these albums boast production that is above the average quality, and I love the mid-west sound.
My advice? Check him out! He is good.
Why We Listened
Andy Mineo signed on with Reach Record in July of 2011 and two months later they released the Formerly Known Mixtape. The mixtape was the unveiling of the new Andy Mineo (Formerly C-Lite). Andy punctuates this on the first song of the mixtape ("Goodbye") when he says:
"Switched the name, used to go by C-Lite
But then I put it in the grave,
'cause I'm steppin' off stage
Still the same dude livin' what I say up on
The new Andy Mineo had some major challenges ahead of him.
A funny thing happens whenever a new artist is signed to Reach Records. Over night the artist's Twitter account jumps up 20,000 followers (just a guess; Andy can you verify?). The new found popularity means that their first release has to live up to the quality of music that the fans are used to from Reach. Let's just say, fans expect a lot.
Andy was up to the challenge and blew our expectations out of the water.

Why We Listened:
Every game has players that standout for their versatility. They may not be a superstar, but they make noise no matter what position they're in. Well the Christian Rap game is no different, and after listening to Derek Minor's PSA Vol 3, I think its safe to say that he is the premier utiity man in Christian Hip Hop.
The multitalented Rapper/Producer, put together a Mixtape that will spin on your playlist for a minute.
Why You Should:
The first thing that stands out is the way Derek Minor (FKA PRo) flows on tracks that he produced for himself. Show-casing the versatility that will keep him relevant for years.
The second thing that stands out is the features. Minor's choice of who to rock with makes this mixtape a classic. He took care to not only choose the right artist to feature, but he match those artists to the perfect song on the mixtape. "Sad Condishun" feat Dre Murray, Json and Viktory is a perfect example. They all killed it.
Also impressive is the variety of songs that were added to this mixtape. Personally I loved "I'm Focused", "In Spite of All", "Real Recognize Real" and "Sad Condishon". Each of these song are so different, but Derek skillfully rhymed on each one.
Derek Minor has set the bar high for artists by giving away (for FREE) a mixtape that like his new name...stands out!

Why We Listened:
The Humble Beast crew has been putting out dope music for a long time now, headlined by some good albums by Braille and Odd Thomas. Satellite Kite is the first album of the collective involving both artist called Beautiful Eulogy. Add in creative producer Courtland Urbano and you've got the making of a classic Hip Hop Crew.
Why You Should Too:
If you have listened to anything from Braille or Odd Thomas, than you know that they beat every track to a pulp with their lyrics. There is not a combination of two more skilled lyricist in Christian Hip Hop.
Producer Courtland Urbano is one of a kind. His beats are crazy, but have an old school feel feel. He gets you groovin on each track. Sometimes as a producer its hard to standout when you have such talented wordsmiths on your song, but Courtland Urbano is the perfect producer for Beautiful Eulogy
Together, Beautiful Eulogy has really put out a classic FREE album with Satellite Kite.
