Why We Listened
I can't lie, I had never heard of City Lights. I found out about the mixtape when Rapzilla.com hosted a listening session for the Basement to Skyscrapers. I didn't have much time, so I kind of shelved it. But I heard just enough of the first song, "Hello", to know that I needed to come back to it.
Why You Should Too
Listen; I do not say this causally, this Mixtape blew me away. These dudes are talented and focused. I love their sound. From top to bottom this Mixtape exceeded my expectation and even led me to worship. (When J. Carter sings in the song Everyday- "If you need him and love him, Life up your arms and just praise him!"...I did) I will officially be giving this mug out to people!
These three young cats, J Carter, Amasiah and Raging Moses, have put together a dope album that is complimenting a dope movement in Colorado Springs (You can check out the movement at http://iamacitylights.com)
As far as the mixtape, each artist brings something good to the record. Amasiah and Raging Moses bring their unique lyricism and J Carter wraps it all together with his vocals. What I loved about it though is that each song feels like its complete. Not all artist or groups can accomplish that. Some artist are good lyricist, but are lacking on the beat. While others are all beat, but weak lyrics. Some songs are just missing a great hook. The best artist know how to make a complete song, and City Lights is an album full of "songs"
Each artist has a feature song on the mixtape:
This group is being slept on right now. Check them out! And Download the Mixtape!
